Princeton, N.J. - Sophomore Becky Brown was named to the All-Ivy second team while freshmen Casey Lockwood and Katy Digovich earned All-Rookie honors in a vote of the league's eight head women's basketball coaches.
"This is a clear sign of a promising future," head coach Richard Barron said. "Becky, Casey and Katy all return for several more years along with six other great players."
Brown, an All-Rookie selection last season, averaged a team-high 14.8 points and added 6.0 rebounds per game and 22 blocks for the 2003-04 Tigers. She was the leading scorer in 13 games, including eight of the last nine when she increased her production from 12.2 points per game to 19.8 points per game. Brown's season highs included 28 points and 12 rebounds, both coming against Yale. She finished ninth in scoring in the Ivy League and third in field goal percentage at .518. "Becky really turned in on in the league season, and is clearly one of the best post players in the league," Brown said. "Hopefully this will be motivation for her to work and improve."
Lockwood's sensational rookie season was cut short when an ACL injury sidelined her for the last eight games. Starting all 19 games that she played in, Lockwood averaged 10.8 points and a team-high 7.9 rebounds while shooting 44% from the floor and 76% from the foul line.
Lockwood was the only Tiger to receive a weekly honor from the league when she earned Rookie of the Week on February 2, 2004. During that week, she had back-to-back double-doubles with 16 points and 11 rebounds against Brown and 15 points and 10 rebounds against Yale, as Princeton won both games. Lockwood had six double-double performances, including career highs of 20 points in her first collegiate game and 11 rebounds on three separate occasions.
"The importance of Casey was seen in the way we played without her, especially in rebounding," Barron said.
The Tigers lost seven straight games after Lockwood's injury and were outrebounded in all but one of those games.
Digovich averaged 10.4 points and 6.4 rebounds while playing in over 32 minutes per game. She set career highs of 20 points at Penn, 14 rebounds against Brown, six assists against Wake Forest and three blocks at Dartmouth. Digovich had two double doubles, sank 31 three-pointers and was second on the team in blocks (20), steals (23) and assists (60).
Princeton finished the year 7-20 overall and 4-10 in the Ivy League.
