Baseball Visits Rutgers Thursday in Final Tune-Up to Ivy Opener

Princeton, N.J. - The Princeton baseball team (11-7) returns to action Thursday afternoon when it travels to Rutgers (8-13) for its final game before the Ivy League season begins on Saturday. First pitch for the game is set for 3 p.m., as the defending Ivy League and Big East champions meet for the 91st time in the all-time series between the schools.
Princeton enters the game off of a 4-1 win at Stony Brook in its last game. The Tigers took three of the four games they played against Stony Brook last weekend thanks to stellar pitching and timely hitting.
Rutgers enters the weekend off of a 7-1 win over Rider on Tuesday afternoon. The Scarlet Knights opened the season dropping two of three to William & Mary, but came back to take two of three from Old Dominion a week later. Rutgers then took one of three from Georgia Tech before being swept at Miami. The Scarlet Knights picked up additional wins against Florida International and Farleigh Dickinson, before taking one of three games from Seton Hall last weekend in their opening Big East games.
Princeton and Rutgers only common opponent is Old Dominion. The Tigers swept Old Dominion by taking three games by scores of 14-8, 6-1 and 9-5, while Rutgers won the first two games by scores of 2-1 and 8-4 before falling 10-4 in the series finale.
The Tigers and Scarlet Knights have met 90 times in the history of the two programs with Rutgers holding a 54-34-2 edge. Rutgers defeated Princeton 20-0 when two teams met at Princeton in 2003. The previous season, the Tigers took an 8-1 win in Piscataway. Princeton is 1-4 versus the Scarlet Knights in head coach Scott Bradley's tenure at Princeton.
Princeton's kicks off the Ivy season on Saturday morning when Dartmouth visits Clarke Field for a doubleheader. The first game is scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m.
