PRINCETON - The pads will go on one more time this academic year. The Princeton football team will suit up on Saturday, April 24 at 2:00 for its annual Spring Game - the final practice of the spring session. The contest is free for the public, and will be played at Princeton Stadium.
The team is coming off a disappointing 2-8 season, but there are bright spots on both sides of the ball. Roger Hughes's crew will return three All-Ivy defensive players next fall, including linebacker Zak Keasey and cornerback Jay McCareins, both of whom are enrolled in school and have competed in the spring practices. The third, safety Brandon Mueller, will return in the fall. The defense will also return seven starters from last season, including linebacker Justin Stull, a first-team All-Ivy linebacker. Offensively, Princeton returns its quarterback, all of its top runners, three receivers, its top tight end and four of five starters on the offensive line. Leading the way will be quarterback Matt Verbit, who has started the last 14 consecutive games for Princeton. Verbit's offensive arsenal will include a pair of senior running backs in Jon Veach and Branden Benson, both of whom showed breakout potential during the season.
The Princeton spring prospectus can be found below. It includes an early preview of the 2004 team, a chat with Roger Hughes, recaps of the 2003 games, 2003 statistics and a spring roster.
