Princeton, N.J. - The Princeton softball team (20-19 overall, 6-6 Ivy League) dropped two games of a doubleheader to Cornell to fall out of Ivy League title contention but still has one week to play in its regular season.
The Tigers visit St. Joseph's (Tuesday, April 27 at 3 p.m.) and Villanova (Thursday, April 29 at 3 p.m.) for two non-conference doubleheaders before hosting league rival Columbia in a makeup game next Saturday, May 1.
Depending on other scores in the league next Saturday, Princeton can finish as high as third place if it sweeps the Lions, who are tied with the Tigers for fifth place in the Ivy League standings. Princeton's final game of the season is Tuesday, May 4 at Rider.
Princeton first visits St. Joseph's, who is 15-21 overall and 6-2 in the Atlantic 10. The Owls recently broke a three-game losing streak by sweeping conference rival Dayton 3-2 and 5-1 last weekend.
St. Joseph's is batting .244 with only one player, Alicia Cunic (.355), above .300. Cunic also holds team-highs of five home runs, 16 RBIs and 42 total bases while Dana Travis is the team's ace with a 10-8 record and 2.44 ERA.
The Tigers then travel to Villanova, which dropped out of the Big East title race with two losses to Notre Dame last weekend. The Wildcats rebounded to sweep Syracuse 2-0 and 3-1 and improve to 27-18 overall and 11-5 in the conference.
Robin Flier is batting .358 with 53 hits while Kari Koller has eight doubles, six home runs, 22 RBIs and 63 total bases. As a team, Villanova is batting .268 and has a 1.64 ERA. Shannon Williams is 17-10 with 154 strikeouts and a 1.51 ERA.
Princeton returns home Saturday at 1 p.m. to make up a doubleheader with Columbia that was postponed last Sunday. The Tigers trailed 2-1 after four innings when the first game was called due to rain.
