Softball Defeats Lehigh 5-1 And 2-1 In Allentown

Allentown, Pa. - Wendy Bingham went 2 for 3 with one RBI and scored the game-winning run in a 2-1 nine-inning win that capped a sweep of Lehigh at Patriot's Park in Allentown, Pa. The Tigers won the first game 5-1 behind a one-hit pitching performance from Erin Snyder.
Princeton improved to 15-10 overall while Lehigh dropped to 25-11-2.
In the first game, Princeton took the first lead with one run off two hits in the second inning. Erin Snyder reached on an error, advanced to second on a Kristin Del Calvo single, and scored on Amanda Erickson's first hit of the game. Lehigh tied the score in the fourth with a run off its only walk and hit of the game. Whitney Schenbeck opened the inning with a walk, advanced to second on a sacrifice from Jessica Young, and scored when Lauren Haney singled to left field.
With two outs against them in the fifth, the Tigers came alive with timely hitter. Stephanie Steel singled to score Wendy Bingham before Melissa Finley drove her home with a two-run homer, her fourth home run this season. Princeton led 4-1 after five.
Lehigh brought in Kate Arico to relieve Emily Ling on the mound in the sixth inning but the result was no different. Cristina Cobb-Adams singled and Erickson scored her with a double to center field for the 5-1 win.
Erickson finished the game 2 for 3 with two RBIs while five other players had one hit apiece for Princeton.
Snyder won the game on the mound with six strikeouts and just one hit and one walk in five innings. Amelia Runyan struck out two batters in the final two innings to finish the win.
In Game Two, Princeton struck first with one run off two hits in the top of the third. Erickson doubled and pinch-runner Tiffany Wilson scored off a Bingham single. The Tigers held a 1-0 lead until the bottom of the seventh when Lehigh took the game into extra innings.
Erin Hengemuhle doubled to right field and moved into scoring position when Elizabeth Gripp reached on an error. The second straight Princeton error brought home Hengehuhle before Snyder and the Tigers closed out the inning with three consecutive outs.
The Tigers won the game in the top of the ninth with an unearned run. Bingham singled and advanced to second when Finley reached on an error at shortstop. With two outs against her, Del Calvo doubled to score Bingham for the game-winning run.
Bingham went 2 for 3 with one run and one RBI while Del Calvo finished 2 for 4 with one RBI. Erickson also had a hit for the Tigers.
Finley pitched five innings with four hits and two strikeouts before Calli Varner took over for the win. Varner struck out seven batters in the final four innings.
Princeton returns to action this weekend with two away Ivy League doubleheaders. The Tigers visit Dartmouth on Friday and Harvard on Saturday.
