Men's Lightweight Eight Finishes Third in Grand Final at IRA's

CAMDEN, N.J. - CAMDEN, N.J. - The Princeton women's varsity lightweight eight placed second in the grand final today behind Wisconsin at the 2004 Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) Regatta on the Cooper River in Camden, N.J.
The Tigers' time of 7:18.02 was more than one second better than third-place Radcliffe and well clear of fourth-place Georgetown. Wisconsin won the race in an impressive time of 7:06.36. Princeton had reached the grand final after finishing second in their first heat behind Wisconsin and then winning their repechage heat the next day by an impressive 11 seconds.
Princeton's men's varsity lightweight eight also had a strong performance, finishing in third place behind Navy and Georgetown in the grand final in that event after finishing second in their initial heat.
The Tiger men's varsity eight placed fifth in the grand final in Camden. Princeton's time of 6:03.16 was just behind Navy in fourth. Princeton had placed third in its semifinal race behind eventual grand final winner Harvard after winning its repechage heat earlier in the regatta.
Princeton won the third-level final of the men's freshman fours w/coxswain by defeating Rutgers by nearly four seconds in that race. The Tigers also reached the grand final of the men's freshman eight, finishing in sixth place in that race.
