PRINCETON - Voluntary workouts, summer vacations and ample free time are now a thing of the past for the Princeton football team, which opened its 2004 training camp this week. The Tigers certainly carry greater optimism for their season than the Ivy League media does, as they were picked to finish sixth in the Ancient Eight this season. The Tigers reported to Princeton on Monday, when they took physicals, received their equipment and met for the first time as a team. Members of the Class of 2008, which includes some highly touted recruits on both sides of the ball, enjoyed a barbecue with their families that night and were introduced to members of the coaching staff and athletic department. The smiles from that barbecue turned serious Tuesday afternoon as they suited up in Princeton practice jerseys for their first practice. Training camp will include single sessions of practice this week (each in the afternoon), as well as various workouts and meetings. The two-a-day sessions will begin Sunday, as the team prepares for its season opener against Lafayette on Sept. 18. As training camp continues, GoPrincetonTigers.com will give reports on the key positions for the upcoming season, as well as other bits of information to help prepare you for another season of Tiger football.
