Akron, Ohio - Six different players scored for the Zips as the Akron men's soccer team defeated Princeton 6-0 at Lee Jackson Field in Ohio. The Tigers dropped to 1-1 this season while Akron improved to 3-0.
Akron out-shot Princeton eight to five in the first half and led 2-0 at the break behind goals from junior Ross McKenzie and sophomore Brendan Murphy. Senior Hans Jorgen Haugland, a 2003 first-team All-MAC selection, set up McKenzie for a header off a corner kick, and fellow senior Alex Ordwell, another first-team All-MAC pick in 2003, had the second assist.
Princeton's Erik White made two saves in the first half but allowed five goals before Bobby Guelich replaced him with 27:25 to play in the second. Guelich had three saves and let up one goal, an unassisted open net shot by sophomore Pablo Moreira at 76:43.
Ordwell and juniors Yohann Mauger and Amico DiFranco all chipped in one goal a piece for the Zips, who remain undefeated as they celebrate their 50th year as a varsity sport at Akron.
Princeton took nine shots including five on goal but Akron keeper Justin Christafaris made five saves in the shutout. Neil Chaudhuri led the way with three shots while Arturo Tafolla came off the bench for two shots on goal.
The Tigers (1-1) play their first home game of the season this Tuesday, Sept. 14 at 7 p.m. against Drexel.
