Chris Young allowed one run and two hits while striking out five in 5 2/3 innings to earn his first major league win as the Texas Rangers defeated the Boston Red Sox 8-6 Saturday afternoon. The win ended the Red Sox' 11-game winning streak. Young left the game with a 5-1 lead in the sixth, and the lead grew to 8-1 on a three-run home run by Michael Young in the seventh. The Red Sox put up five runs in the seventh against the Rangers bullpen, but Doug Brocail pitched a strong eighth and Francisco Cordero closed in the ninth to earn his 42nd save. Young, a 2002 Princeton grad, threw 116 pitches, 74 of which were for strikes. The only run he allowed came when Kevin Millar doubled and scored on a pair of ground outs in the second. Young is now 1-1 with a 4.02 ERA in his three starts for the Rangers. He had a no-decision in his debut against Minnesota and a loss against the Orioles in his second appearance. Young was an All-Ivy basketball and baseball player at Princeton.
