PRINCETON, N.J. - Michelle Quibell, who won the 2004 Constable championship en route to winning the national title, leads the field into the 2005 Constable and Princeton Women's Championships this weekend.
Quibell, who topped Trinity's Amina Helal 5-9 9-7 9-1 9-5 in the 2004 final, will join 15 of the top collegiate players Friday night as they begin the competition for this year's title. The Yale junior is one of three Bulldogs who are seeded in this year's competition. Classmate Amy Gross is the No. 2 seed while sophomore Catherin McLeod is the No. 3 seed. Trinity's Vaidehi Reddy rounds out the seeds at No. 4.
The home squad sends four players into the main draw, and each will meet unseeded players in the first round. Freshman Christina Fast will meet Larissa Stephenson while classmate Lena Neufeld will battle Miranda Ranieri. The bottom half of the draw features a pair of Princeton sophomores; Marilla Hiltz meets Frances Ho and Genevieve Lessard plays Paula Pearson. This is one of the three tournaments that will go on at the Jadwin Courts this weekend. The Princeton Women's 5.5 and 4.5 tournaments will bring together many collegiate players, including a number of other Princetonians.
The complete draw can be found here.
The tournament, which is run by Princeton head coach Gail Ramsay, is named in honor of Princeton's legendary Hall of Fame former coach Betty Constable.
