Women's Basketball Sets For Non-Conference Finale

Princeton, N.J. -- Following a two-week stance of finals, papers and regrouping, the women's basketball team resumes action on Tuesday in Easton, Pa., where they face Lafayette (3-14) in their final non-conference game of the season. The Tigers (7-5) can be heard at goprincetontigers.com at 7 p.m.
Princeton Game Notes
Reflection Time - Princeton has won its last five games and is 7-5 entering tonight's matchup. This is the best win-streak for the Tigers since the 1998-99 season when the orange and black went seven games straight. Junior Becky Brown led the Tigers with 23 points and nine boards, while freshman Meg Cowher chipped in 19 points and 12 rebounds in the 64-53 win over Army on Jan. 5.
Scouting the Leopards - Lafayette is 3-14 overall after falling to Colgate in a close 76-75 home game on Sunday. The Leopards are 2-8 in homestands this season and the Princeton contest with be the sixth-consecutive contest in Allan P. Kirby Sports Center. Vanessa VanDeVenter leads Lafayette in both points (9.7) and rebounds (5.8). Conference Rulings - Princeton is 36-28 all-time against the Patriot League and 5-5 under head coach Richard Barron following the 64-53 win over Army.
Highlight Reel - Freshman Meg Cowher scored a season-high 28 points in the Saint Peter's game. Her performance is not only the most scored by any Tiger this season, but it is the most scored by a freshman in a home game at Princeton. Teammate Becky Brown holds the freshman record with 31 points on March 8, 2003 at Columbia. Cowher's 28 points was two better than Claire B. Tomasiewicz's 26 points against Mercy College on March 5, 1976 at Seton Hall.
Entering Her 20s - Junior Becky Brown has scored 20 points or more in the last three of four games. In the Mount St. Mary's game, she went a perfect 5-5 from the free throw line, shot a .615 from the field and grabbed six rebounds en route to a 21-point night. She picked up a 20-point game and rallied nine rebounds in the following contest at Fairleigh Dickinson. Her season-best 23 points and nine rebounds led the way in the Army contest. Brown scored 19 in the Saint Peter's game, one point shy of four straight.
Feeding The Posts - Junior Katy O'Brien is second in the league with 4.17 assists per game. In the last four games, O'Brien has tallied 27 assists. She recorded six vs. Mount St. Mary's and Army, seven at Fairleigh Dickinson and eight vs. Saint Peter's. Prior to that she averaged 2.9 per contest.
Getting Grown - Sophomore Katy Digovich recorded her first double-double of the season with 11 points and 12 rebounds in the Fairleigh Dickinson contest. She is third in team scoring (10.1) and was the only Tiger to score in double figures in the first four games this season.
Fresh Start - Freshman Meagan Cowher earned her fourth Ivy League Rookie of the Week accolade on Jan. 10 after averaging 23.5 points and 10.5 rebounds in two games the week before. She garnered her second double-double of the year with a 19 point, 12 rebound game against Army.
Lights Out - Junior Katy O'Brien scored 15 points, all from three-point range, in the 68-46 loss to 20th-ranked Rutgers. She tallied 11 treys in a two-game stretch (Wagner & Rutgers) and posted 36 points, all from converting on the three-ball, including the season high 18 points off the bench at Wagner. O'Brien is third in the Ivy League with 1.92 3-pointers made a game.
Ahead In Years - Meagan Cowher currently ranks first among her teammates in scoring (12.8) and rebounds (5.7) per game. She also sits at the top of the Ivy League in field goal percentage (.500).
Defense Is Key - Entering into tonight contest Princeton leads the league in scoring defense (56.4). The Tigers held their last three opponents to just under 34% shooting from the floor in the game and caused 23 turnovers a night. Against Fairleigh Dickinson the Tigers limited the Knights to only three second chance points and zero fast break points, while the Peahen's of Saint Peter's had 24 turnovers.
Give Me That - Princeton has out-rebounded their last four opponents 161-134. As a result of the rebounds, the Tigers have gained 75 opportunities to the foul line when they talled 94 attempts in the first eight games.
Gone With The Wind - Junior Katy O'Brien garnered a career-high five steals in the St. Mary's contest. She leads all Tigers with 26 steals on the season and is ranked second in the league with 2.17 steals per game.
Stepping Up - Freshman Ariel Rogers played in a season-high 30 minutes versus then 20th-ranked Rutgers. Prior to that contest she averaged nine minutes a game. Rogers tallied three assists, three rebounds, two points, two steals and one block in the game. Rogers then recorded a season-high 10 points in the Mount St. Mary's game. She went 6-6 from the free throw line and grabbed six rebounds, four offensive.
