Women's Basketball Opens Ivy Play

Princeton, N.J. -- The women's basketball team will open conference play this weekend as they travel to Brown on Friday, Jan. 27 and then Yale on Saturday, Jan. 28. The Tigers look to match their seven-win streak set in in the 1998-99 season after posting a season-high 82 points in the win over Lafayette. Both games are scheduled for a 7 p.m. tip-off and can be heard at goprincetontigers.com.
Princeton Game Notes
Reflection Time - Princeton has won its last six games and is 8-5 entering tonight's match up. With a win tonight, the Tigers will match their best win-streak since the 1998-99 season when the orange and black went seven games straight. In the Lafayette contest on Tuesday juniors Becky Brown and Katy O'Brien led the pack. Brown scored 24 points, while O'Brien chipped in 16 points, eight assists and four steals in the 82-72 win. Scouting the Bears- Brown is 10-5 on the season and 2-0 in league play. Holly Robertson and Sarah Hayes had 16 a piece in the 72-56 win over Yale. Robertson leads the team in scoring (15.5), rebounding (9.2) and has 31 blocks on the season.
Scouting the Bulldogs- Yale is 3-12 overall and host its first All-Ivy weekend of the season. The Bulldogs fell to Brown 72-56 last week. Sophomore Erica Davis leads the team with 12.4 ppg, 6.9 rpg, a .431 field goal percentage and 25 steals. Senior Morgan Richards has paced the Elis in scoring and rebounding in both their conference games. She is averaging 15.5 ppg and 7.5 rpg in Ivy play.
Returning Delight - Sophomore Casey Lockwood made her season debut in Wednesday's game at Lafayette. Lockwood played 11 minutes in the match up and returned to the lineup after recovering from a torn ACL from last season. She scored nine points and grabbed a rebound in her first four minutes of action.
Climbing Milestone Hill - With the season-high 24 points Becky Brown scored on Wednesday she is 34 points shy of breaking the 1,000-point plateau. As a junior, Brown will become the 14 Tiger in programs history to do so.
Highlight Reel - Freshman Meg Cowher scored a season-high 28 points in the Saint Peter's game. Her performance is not only the most scored by any Tiger this season, but it is the most scored by a freshman in a home game at Princeton. Teammate Becky Brown holds the freshman record with 31 points on March 8, 2003 at Columbia. Cowher's 28 points was two better than Claire B. Tomasiewicz's 26 points against Mercy College on March 5, 1976 at Seton Hall.
Entering Her 20s - Junior Becky Brown has scored 20 points or more in the last four of five games. In the Mount St. Mary's game, she went a perfect 5-5 from the free throw line, shot a .615 from the field and grabbed six rebounds en route to a 21-point night. She picked up a 20-point game and rallied nine rebounds in the following contest at Fairleigh Dickinson. Her season-best 24 points came on Wednesday following a 23 point and nine rebound out-pour that led the way in the Army contest. Brown scored 19 in the Saint Peter's game, one point shy of five straight.
Feeding The Posts - Junior Katy O'Brien is first in the league with 4.46 assists per game. O'Brien has recorded eight assists versus both Saint Peter's and Lafayette. She has tallied 32 assists in five games. Prior to that she averaged 2.9 per contest.
Getting Grown - Sophomore Katy Digovich recorded her first double-double of the season with 11 points and 12 rebounds in the Fairleigh Dickinson contest.
Fresh Start - Freshman Meagan Cowher earned her fourth Ivy League Rookie of the Week accolade on Jan. 10 after averaging 23.5 points and 10.5 rebounds in two games the week before. She garnered her second double-double of the year with a 19 point, 12 rebound game against Army.
Lights Out - Junior Katy O'Brien went 4 for 8 from beyond the arc and scored 16 points against the Leopards of Lafayette. O'Brien has nailed 27 threes this season and is averaging 2.07 a game, which places her second in the Ivy league and paces the team with a .380 3-point field goal percentage.
Ahead In Years - Meagan Cowher currently ranks first among her teammates in scoring (12.9) and is second in rebounds (5.4) per game. She also sits at the top of the Ivy League in field goal percentage (.515).
Give Me That - Princeton has out-rebounded their last five opponents 191-168. As a result of the rebounds, the Tigers have gained 91 opportunities to the foul line when they tallied 94 attempts in the first eight games.
Gone With The Wind - Junior Katy O'Brien garnered a career-high five steals in the St. Mary's contest. She leads all Tigers with 30 steals on the season and is ranked second in the league with 2.31 steals per game.
