Floutown, Pa. - The Princeton men's golf team shot a final round of 311 for a two-round total of 608 as the Tigers tied for sixth in the 14-team Big 5 Classic on Sunday afternoon at the Philadelphia Cricket Club. Jason Gerken's 148 tied for ninth in the final rundown.
Richmond and George Washington tied for first overall in the field as both teams shot 592. Penn State, Columbia and Villanova completed the top five. Princeton tied with Drexel in sixth.
Gerken's ninth-place finish was the tops for the five Princeton players in the field. Gerken shot 74 in both rounds for a total of 148, six strokes over par. Steve Arnold of Villanova was the tournament's winner and he finished at even par.
John Sawin, whose first round of 72 was Princeton's lowest, followed with an 80 in the second round for a 152 to tie for 21st. Max Shechter was the next Tiger in the rundown as he posted rounds of 77 and 78 for a 155 and a tied for 33rd.
Andrew Maliniak was one stroke behind that as he finished 38th with a 77 and 79 for a 156. Jesse Dixon, whose 74 and 83 for a 157 placed him 49th, rounds out Princeton's fivesome.
Princeton is back in action next weekend at the Georgetown Invitational.
