Lewisburg, Pa. - The Princeton Men's Water Polo team fell to 10-3 on the season with a 12-11 overtime loss at Bucknell on Sunday afternoon. The loss dropped Princeton to 4-1 in the CWPA Southern Division. Eric Vreeland led the Tigers with three goals, while Reid Joseph and John Stover each scored twice.
The loss snapped a 14-game league-winning streak for the Tigers, who had last dropped a league game at the end of the 2003 season.
Both teams scored three goals in the first quarter, including two for Princeton by Stover. The Tigers then stretched out a 5-4 lead at half time on second-quarter goals by Chris Kelsch and Joseph. Bucknell then scored three goals in the third quarter to take a 7-5 lead after three quarters but four Tiger goals in the fourth quarter to Bucknell's two knotted up the score at 9-9 and sent the game to overtime. Bucknell had a 9-6 lead with five minutes remaining but goals by Vreeland, Mike McKenna and Joseph tied the score.
In the first overtime, Bicknell scored three goals to go up 12-9. Princeton responded by making the score 12-11 with 1:05 remaining but could not draw even. Nicholas Seaver and Jamal Motlagh scored the overtime goals.
