Muncie, Ind. - The Princeton men's golf team shot a three-round 853 to finish fifth overall at the 2005 Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational Tuesday afternoon at the Delaware Country Club. Princeton was third after two rounds but fell to fifth in the final rundown. Jason Gerken was Princeton's top finisher in fourth.
Ball State, the tournament's host, won the team title with a total of 824. Austin Peay was second, followed by Western and Eastern Kentucky in the 15-team field.
Gerken placed fourth to lead all Princetonians at the event. He shot rounds of 67, 67 and 72. He was the leader after two rounds but fell to fourth in the final round. Austin Peay's Chris Barron won the event and was six strokes up on Gerken. Gerken was four-under par in the tournament.
John Sawin came next for Princeton in a tie for 21st with a three-round 214 (73, 67, 74). Jesse Dixon tied for 36th with a 219 (68, 72,79). Andrew Maliniak tied for 58th with a 220 (71, 72, 77) and Brent Herlihy was 58th with a 228 (81, 74, 73).
Princeton resumes play in two weekends at the Big 5 Classic.
