Philadelphia, Pa. - The Ivy League-champion Princeton field hockey team wrapped up the regular season with a 2-1 win at Penn on Friday night at Franklin Field. Princeton fell behind but goals from seniors Lauren Ehrlichman and Hillary Schmidt led Princeton to the win. The Tigers complete the regular season 9-8 overall and a perfect 7-0 in the Ivy League.
After a scoreless first half, Kristen Gray put Penn (9-8, 3-4) on the scoreboard. The goal came off a penalty corner opportunity as she shot the ball over Princeton goalkeeper Allison Nemeth and into the back of the cage, with 8:24 gone by in the second half. Sophomore Meghan Rose had the assist.
Ehrlichman scored the equalizer for the Tigers (9-8, 7-0), an unassisted tally, with 18:57 remaining in the game. With 10 minutes remaining on the clock, Hillary Schmidt tipped in a shot from sister, Paige, for the game-winning goal off a penalty corner.
The first half was a defensive stuggle for both sides. Princeton manged five shots, while the Quakers had two in the first 35 minutes. In the second half, the Tigers added five more shots and the Quakers had three. Overall the Tigers, who won their 14th Ivy League title, out shot the Quakers, 10-5, and held a 12-9 advantage in penalty corners.
Elizabeth Schlossberg made two saves in the cage for Penn, while her counterpart, Nemeth made two stops.
Princeton will be back in action next weekend for the NCAA tournament. The Tigers will learn of their opponent and game time when the NCAA announces the field on Tuesday night.
