PRINCETON, N.J. - Princeton sophomore forward Meagan Cowher has been named the Ivy League Player of the Week for women's basketball, the Ivy League office announced Monday. Cowher scored 19 points against Rider last Wednesday in Princeton's only game of the week, a 67-63 win. Cowher also had four steals and was 9 for 14 from the field against the Broncs.
Cowher scored 14 of her 19 points in the first half on 7 of 11 shooting as Princeton took a 14-point lead into the locker room. She was 2 for 3 in the second half as Katy O'Brien led the team in the last 20 minutes with 11 points.
The 2005 Ivy League Rookie of the Year, Cowher has scored double-digit points in seven of the last eight games and the 19 points against Rider was her second-highest total of the season after a 25-point effort against Central Florida on Nov. 26. She is the second-straight Ivy League Player of the Week to wear a Princeton uniform, following senior center Becky Brown last week.
Cowher and the Tigers, who at 6-3 are off to their best nine-game start since the 1995-96 season, face No. 1 Tennessee on Tuesday night in Knoxville, Tenn.
