Women's Water Polo Defeats Villanova, Marist and Harvard

Princeton, N.J. - The Princeton women's water polo team opened the 2005 season with three wins earlier today in the Princeton Invitational at DeNunzio Pool. The Tigers began the day with an 11-2 win over Villanova in day's first matc, defeated Marist 10-6 later in the day and topped Harvard 8-4 in the evening. Princeton will meet Harvard this evening.
In the season opener the Tigers jumped to a 3-0 lead in the first quarter and never looked back. Megan Donahue led the Tigers with three goals and Carolina Ardila and Elyse Colgan each added a pair. Princeton led 5-1 at the half and pulled away with four goals in the third en route to the 11-2 win. Natalie Kim played the first three quarters in goal and made five saves. Shannon DeVore made one save in the final quarter

Princeton defeated Marist 10-6 in the Tigers' second game of the day after a three-goal second quarter that broke a 1-1 tie and gave Princeton a 4-2 lead at the half. Samantha Shaughnessy scored three goals to pace the Tigers and Donahue added two more.

In the final game the Tigers defeated Harvard 8-4, outscoring the Crimson 2-1 in all four quarters. Colgan had three goals, including two in the first quarter to pace Princeton to the win.
