Tigers Top Slippery Rock and Marist, Fall to Hartwick in Women's Water Polo

Lewisburg, Pa. - The Princeton women's water polo team went 2-1 Saturday at the Bucknell Invitational earlier today at Kinney Natatorium. The Tigers defeated Slippery Rock 14-6 and Marist 13-2, and dropped a thriller to Hartwick 12-11 in sudden-death overtime.
In the first game of the day the Tigers jumped a 4-1 lead in the first quarter and never looked back, taking an 8-4 lead at the half and extending it to 14-6 by the end of the game. Elyse Colgan scored four goals in the game, including two in the first quarter, while Carolina Ardila added three goals. Danielle Carlson had two goals in the game, while Coutrney Mee, Jazmin Brown, Jessica Ajoux and Megan Donahue each had one. Madeline McCarthy played the first half and made three saves, while Natalie Kim finished off the second half with five saves.

In the second game of the day, Princeton battled back after falling behind early, but eventually fell when Hartwick won 12-11 in sudden-death overtime. Hartwick jumped to leads of 5-0 and 7-1 in the game before the Tiger comeback began. Colgan led the way with seven goals in the game and six other Tigers had one goal apiece. Again McCarthy and Devore split the game. McCarthy made three saves in the first half, while Devore made eight in the second half and overtime. "I am very proud of the team," said head coach Luis Nicolao following the Hartwick game. "The team team never gave up and stormed back after getting down early. We just came up alittle bit short at the end."
