San Jose, Calif. -- Despite 11 strikeouts from junior Erin Snyder, the Princeton softball team dropped a 3-0 decision to #2 California in the second game of the National Invitation Tournament. The Tigers fall to 4-3 on the season. Snyder (2-1) showed strong pitching and made a huge defensive stand in the fifth inning when she struck out Kristen Bayless. Princeton was down 3-0 and bases were loaded with two outs when Snyder put the inning away. Kaleo Eldredge tallied California's first run in the opening inning, while Lindsay James, who stole second and third tallied the second run with a single to short stop from Haley Woods. Jessica Vernaglia scored the final run for the Golden Bears off a double by James. California's Jessica Pamanian sent a soaring ball deep to center field that senior Melissa Finley made a running play on to secure the third out in the sixth and give the Tigers momentum. Princeton plays Northern Iowa at 10 a.m. in a round-robin bracket of the National Invitation Tournament.
