MORAGA, Calif. -- On a windy afternoon, senior Melissa Finley and junior Amanda Erickson tallied their third homeruns of the season and led the Tigers to two wins over Saint Mary's. Princeton won the first game 5-1 and 6-1 in the second game of the doubleheader. The Tigers improve to 9-3 on the season, while the Gaels fall to 3-15. With a two-two count and two outs, Erickson tallied her third homer of the season in the fifth inning. Finley, who got to base on a single down third base and junior Cristina Cobb-Adams, who hit a single over the first baseman, scored on the homerun making it a 3-0 game in the first inning.
While freshman Beth Dalmut was at bat, Finley tallied the fourth point as Saint Mary's Eleni Papailias over threw the third baseman to make a play. Junior Erin Snyder crossed home plate as freshman Lauren Bierman was walked with bases loaded to take a 5-0 lead over the Gaels. Finley recorded homerun number three of the season with the first pitch of the seventh inning. Claudia Williams scored the lone run for Saint Mary's off a single by Papailias. Schaus earned the win with 11 strikeouts in six innings, while Lauren Gardner took the loss for Saint Mary`s. In game one Erickson, who earned her first start of the season at catcher today, hit a double to left field that sent Finley, who was walked, home for the first score of the game in the opening inning. Snyder earned two RBIs with a double to left center field, as junior Lindsay Motal and sophomore Tiffany Andras scored in the third inning. Bierman sailed a hit just over the second baseman`s head to get on base in the fourth inning. Cobb-Adams`s double down the left line advanced Bierman to third, before Motal garnered a RBI with a single to right field and put Princeton up 4-0 in the contest. Andras hit a single right down the middle that would have only been a single, but the center fielder mis-handled the ball allowing Cobb-Adams to score and Andras to advance to second. Cobbs-Adams hit a line drive to left field to get on base, and stole second while Andras was at bat. Chelsea Loftis's double in the sixth inning ended the shutout , as Lauren Mella scored for the Gaels. Snyder (4-1) recorded the win for the Tigers at pitcher with ? Strikeouts in seven innings. Princeton travels to Davis, Calif., on Tuesday as they face UC Davis in a doubleheader starting at 1:30 p.m.
