Softball Sweeps Ivy Honors

PRINCETON, N.J. -- Softball swept the first round of weekly awards named by the Ivy Leauge on Tuesday. Juniors Amanda Erickson and Erin Snyder were named Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, while freshman Kristen Schaus earned her first Rookie of the Week nod.
Erickson posted a .351 batting average, three home runs and seven runs scored for the Tigers as they opened the season 9-3. She also tallied 11 RBI, three doubles and has a slugging percentage of .676 over the team's first 12 games. Her latest homerun came with a 2-2 count and two outs against Saint Mary's, where she collected two RBIs in the process. In the Saint Mary's double-header Erickson tallied four RBIs and was 3 for 4 with two runs in the Rhode Island game the day before. Erickson also leads the Tigers with a .931 fielding percentage.
Snyder, the 2003 Ivy League Rookie of the Year, was named Pitcher of Week after she tallied a 4-1 record on the season with an ERA of 1.06. Snyder has 54 strikeouts and five runs allowed over 34 innings pitched. Snyder recorded 11 strikeouts in the first game of a doubleheader against Saint Mary's and a season-high 13 strikeouts against Connecticut. Against Rhode Island, Snyder struck out the first six batters in the game. Snyder has done her part offensively as well this season with a team-leading .361 batting average, two home runs and 10 RBIs.Schaus is 3-1 on the season and has a 0.96 ERA with 46 strikeouts in 28 innings pitched. Allowing just 19 hits and three earned runs to date, opponents are batting just .220 against her. In the Northern Iowa matchup she struck out a career-high 14 batters, including the first seven. Her most memorable defensive stand was in the Saint Mary's contest were she held the Gaels scoreless. With the bases loaded and zero outs, Schaus tallied three strikeouts to close the inning. Schaus also recorded a no-hitter in her first-collegiate win with six strikeouts and no hits in five innings to lead Princeton to a 9-0 win over Elon.
Princeton will face Colorado State at 10 a.m. on Wednesday in San Jose, Calif.
