PRINCETON - The Princeton open crew swept the Ivy League competition in 2004 before heading to Easterns and capturing the league championship. The Tigers took their first step to a repeat of that magical season by topping Brown and Michigan State in the season-opening regatta at Lake Carnegie.
Princeton won the first varsity eight competition by finishing in 6:33.2, almost four seconds faster than Brown. Michigan State came in third at 6:42.9. Brown took the second varsity eight and the first novice races, although Princeton proved to be a strong challenger in the second varsity race.
Princeton will travel to Piscataway, N.J., next weekend to compete against Rutgers and Columbia.
