CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Despite another championship swim from sprint free standout Will Reinhardt, the Harvard men's swimming & diving team held off a feisty Princeton squad to claim the 2005 EISL championship in front of its home faithful.
Harvard, which placed second to Princeton in the 2004 championships, trailed after Thursday's final session, but the Crimson outscored Princeton in each of the final two night sessions to pull away for the win. The Crimson ended with 1460 points, while Princeton recorded 1363.5 points. Columbia placed third with 1040.5 points.
Princeton got its lone win on Saturday evening from a familiar face, as junior Will Reinhardt won the 100 free in 45.02, just .06 of a second faster than Columbia's Will Tobin. Reinhardt, who won the 50 free Thursday evening, duplicated his 2004 effort as both the 50 and 100 champion.
David Ashley placed second in the 1650 free (15:28.28), but he fell victim to Harvard's John Cole, who set a meet record with his winning time of 14:58.35. Meir Hasbani placed second in the 200 fly with a time of 1:47.08, while the 400 free relay team also placed second in 2:59.86.
