Baseball Drops First Game at Penn 3-1

Philadelphia, Pa. - Penn jumped to a 2-0 lead in the third and held off the Tigers for a 3-1 win over the Princeton baseball team in the opening game of a doubleheader at Penn's Murphy Field. Sophomore Aaron Prince had two hts for Princeton in the game, including the single that scored junior Zach Wendkos for Princeton's lone run.
The Quakers (10-18, 6-7 Ivy) jumped to a 2-0 lead in the third inning after a scoreless first two innings. With an out, Alex Blagojevich was hit by a pitch to reach base. He went to third on a double by Kyle Armeny and scored on Nate Moffie's groundout. Armeny went to third on the play and scored on a single to center by Bryan Graves.
Princeton (11-16, 5-4 Ivy) cut the lead in half with a run in the fifth inning. Junior Zach Wendkos hit a leadoff double to center. He went to third on a wild pitch during the at-bat of junior Matthew Becker. Becker walked to put two runners on and Wendkos scored when sophomore Aaron Prince singled through the left side.
Penn regained the two-run lead in the bottom-half of the inning when Armeny hit a solo homer to right field to leadoff the inning.
Penn starter Josh Appell pitched a complete-game four-hitter to improve to 4-2 on the season. Freshman Christian Staehely allowed three runs on five hits and fell to 0-3.
