Princeton, N.J. - The Princeton baseball team begins a five-game homestand and a stretch in which it will play seven of its next eight games at home this afternoon when Monmouth visits Clarke Field. Monmouth took the first meeting of the season between the two schools 12 days ago, so the Tigers will be looking to settle the score come Tuesday afternoon. Fand can follow today's action live with GameTracker.
Princeton (13-17, 7-5 Ivy) enters the midweek game after winning its last two games on Sunday at Penn. The Tigers split the weekend series with the Quakers, but after dropping two games on Saturday, rebounded with two wins on Sunday to pull off the split. Princeton also played once out-of-conference last week, taking a 10-0 win from Seton Hall last Tuesday.
Monmouth (17-15, 9-4 NEC) enters the game as one of the area's hottest teams, winning its last nine games and 10 of 11 since the Hawks win over Princeton on April 7. The Hawks have two wins over LIU, two over Wagner, three over St. Francis, one against LaSalle and one at Lafayette in the stretch. Monmouth currently sits second to Sacred Heart in the NEC standings.
Twelve days ago when the two teams met, Monmouth came away with a 15-7 win. Princeton jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first, but five Monmouth runs in the third and fifth innings helped the Hawks build a lead they would not relinquish. Princeton leads the all-time series against Monmouth 18-6.
The teams have faced three common opponents. Monmouth beat Penn twice and dropped single games to Rutgers and Seton Hall. Princeton went 2-2 at Penn, and defeated both Rutgers and Seton Hall.
