Princeton, N.J. - The Princeton baseball team plays its first Ivy League games at home this season when Columbia visits Clarke Field this weekend for a pair of Ivy League doubleheaders. The Tigers first four home Ivy games were rescheduled away from Princeton due to poor weather and field conditions.
Fans can follow along online with Gametracker for all four games this weekend. Links can be found on the schedule and results page. Additionally, WPRB will broadcast the first games of each doubleheader. A link to the broadcasts can also be found on the schedule and results page. Weather may also be a factor this weekend with thunderstorms in the forecast for Saturday. Any postponements and/or schedule changes will be updated on GoPrincetonTigers.com.
Princeton (13-18, 7-5 Ivy) enters the weekend after asserting themselves atop the Gehrig Division standings last Sunday at Penn. On Saturday the Quakers took two games form Princeton to pull even in the race, and on Sunday they were a strike away from taking a one-game lead, but a last inning comeback in Sunday's first game and solid win in Sunday's second game gave Princeton a two-game lead in the division standings.
The Tigers are now 7-5 in the Ivy League and have a two-game lead on Penn (7-9) and Cornell (5-7) in the Gehrig Division standings. Columbia (2-14) rounds out the division. The Tigers can clinch the Gehrig Division Championship this weekend depending on how the games play out. In the race for home field advantage in the Ivy League Championship Series, Harvard (10-2) has a one game edge over Brown (9-3). The two teams meet four times this weekend at Brown. Harvard also has a three-game lead on Princeton. On the Ivy League schedule this weekend, Princeton hosts Columbia, Cornell hosts Penn, Brown hosts Harvard and Yale hosts Dartmouth.
Columbia (4-29, 2-14 Ivy League) enters the weekend having won just once in its last 18 games played. The Lions were swept in a non-conference doubleheader Wednesday by Fordham, and split last Sunday with Cornell. Columbia has wins this season over Cornell, Penn, Vermont and Fairleigh Dickinson.
