The top-ranked Princeton open crew will look to complete its second straight perfect Ivy League season Saturday when it travels to Hanover, N.H., to compete with Penn and Dartmouth. Both Princeton men's teams are also looking forward to the weekend in hopes of getting back into a winning frame of mind as Easterns and IRAs loom on the horizon.
Open
Entering this weekend, Princeton has won 16 straight dual races with Ivy League schools. The Tigers were a perfect 7-0 in 2004, and they can match that in 2005 by defeating Penn and Dartmouth this weekend. The Tigers have held the No. 1 spot in the nation all season and are gearing up for the defense of their 2004 Eastern Sprint title.
Neither Penn nor Dartmouth are ranked in the latest Top 20 poll. The Tigers have earned wins against the No. 4 (Harvard), No. 6 (Michigan State) and No. 7 (Brown) crews in the nation.
Heavyweight
Princeton entered last weekend's regatta with Harvard as the No. 1 team in the country, while the Crimson held the No. 4 position. A convincing win for the Crimson flipped both teams' spots in the polls, and now it will be the No. 4 Princeton crew looking to defeat No. 8 Yale and No. 11 Cornell on Lake Carnegie. Outside of its loss to Harvard, Princeton has dominated the rest of its schedule and will look to stay in the national Top 5 as it eyes potential future rematches with Harvard at Easterns and IRAs.
Racing with Yale and Cornell will open at 9 a.m. with the second freshman boat. From there, it will be the third varsity (9:20), first freshman (9:40), second varsity (10:00) and first varsity (10:20).
Men's Lightweight
Princeton will travel down to the Schuylkill River to race the University of Pennsylvania on Saturday. Princeton is 2-3 on the season, although it is coming off a pair of losses to Cornell and Rutgers. Princeton defeated Penn by more than 12 seconds last season.
Women's Lightweight
Following last weekend's win in the Knecht Cup, the Tigers will be off this weekend. Prineton will travel to Cambridge, Mass., next weekend to square off with rival Harvard.
