NEW HAVEN, CONN. -- Pitchers Kristen Schaus and Erin Snyder held Yale scoreless off just three hits, as the Princeton softball team swept the Bulldogs at the DeWitt Family Field, this afternoon. Princeton won the opener 3-0 in nine innings and then sealed the day with a 4-0 victory in game two. The Tigers improve to 31-14 and 10-2 in the league, while the Bulldogs fall to 13-25 on the season and 2-8 in the conference. Schaus (12-7) allowed just one hit in the second game against the Elis and struck out seven batters. Schaus, who earned her sixth shutout of the season, posted a no-hitter until the bottom of the fourth inning, when Chelsea Kanyer hit a single between Princeton's third baseman and the short stop. In the first game, Snyder (14-3) pitched a two-hitter in nine innings and fanned 13 batters to earn her eighth shutout of the season. Snyder posted a no-hitter until the fourth inning, where Christina Guerland hit a single that dropped behind third base. In the second game, Snyder tallied her fourth homer of the season with a two-run long ball in the third inning of game. Snyder's home run to right field came after she garnered a 1-0 count with senior Melissa Finley on second base. Finley advanced to base with a single to left field and earned an extra base on the throw to first. Junior Amanda Erickson's double with bases loaded in the first inning drove in both Lauren Bierman and Finley for the first two runs of the game.
Three runs off three bunts ended the first game in the ninth inning. The inning opened as Erickson patiently accepted a lead off walk and was relieved on bases by sophomore Tiffany Wilson. Pinch hitting, junior Lindsay Motal bunted and reached base safely after the first baseman tried to catch Wilson at second. Sophomore Stephanie Steel also reached first, as the third baseman tried to catch Wilson at third. Senior Ty Ries followed with another bunt, with bases loaded and no outs to score Wilson. Later, sophomore Tiffany Andras earned two RBI with a sharp shot to right field that was dropped, allowing Motal and Steel to score on the play. Ashley Linnenbank took the loss for Yale and allowed three runs off four hits in nine innings pitched. Due to the postponement ofgames in New Haven, Conn. and in Providence, R.I., yesterday, the Tigers will end conference play in a doubleheader at 2 p.m. against Brown tomorrow.
