Scott Champ Named Assistant Women's Soccer Coach

Scott Champ, who helped the Texas A&M women's soccer team to the Big 12 championship while completing his coursework for his Ph.D. in organic chemistry, has been named assistant women's soccer coach at Princeton University.
Champ joins the staff of Julie Shackford, the 2004 Division I national Coach of the Year. He replaces Chris Pfau, who left to become the head coach at Evansville.
Shackford, who led Princeton to the NCAA Final Four a year ago, also recruited the 17th-ranked recruiting class in Division I according to SoccerBuzz Magazine. Princeton's incoming class features two of the Top 100 recruits in the country - Taylor Numann and Jen Om.
Champ is a 1992 graduate of the University of Virginia, where he was a member of the Cavaliers' 1989 and 1991 NCAA championship teams. He graduated with a degree in chemistry after earning Academic All-ACC honors.
After graduation Champ played professionally in Hungary and then in the United States in the USISL. He also has 10 years coaching experience on the youth level. He and his wife Bethany have a son Asa (4) and a daughter Vivien (1).
Princeton went 19-3 a year ago, winning the Ivy League championship and then four games in the NCAA tournament to become the first Ivy school to reach the NCAA women's soccer Final Four. Princeton graduates 10 seniors from that team.
Helping to replace those 10 seniors will be an incoming class ranked 17th in Division I, third in the Mid-Atlantic Region and first in the Ivy League by SoccerBuzz.
The complete class:
1) Jennifer Om (Fairfax, VA). Jen is currently with the Under 17 National pool as a midfielder. She goes to Thomas Jefferson High School and plays for the Braddock Road Aurora.
2) Aarti Jain (Arcadia, CA). Aarti is with the Region IV team. She is a creative forward or midfielder with very good one v one ability. She plays for the Slammers and goes to Arcadia High School. 3) Taylor Numann (Campbell, CA). Taylor has been in and out of the Region IV team. She is a back or midfielder and is extremely athletic. She goes to Presentation High School and plays for the Pleasanton Rage.
4) Allison Scott (Coppell, TX). Plays for the Dallas Sting and Coppell High School. She is a stong central defender with the ability to distribute effectively out of the back.
5) Allison Williams (Mt. Laurel, NJ). Allison is a hard-nosed forward who has the ability to create and score goals. She is a U-17 Regional pool player (Region 1) and plays for the Mt. Laurel Strikers.
6) Sara Peteraf (Hanover, NH). Sara is with the U-17 Regional Team. She is a quick outside midfielder with a great deal of potential; She was recently named an NSCAA All-America and Gatorade Player of the Year. She plays for New Hampshire Classics and goes to Hanover High School.
7) Sarah Steele (Longmeadow, MA).Sarah can play up front or in the midfield. She was also named an NSCAA All-America. She attends Loomis Chafffee (CT) and plays for Oakwood.
