PRINCETON - Mike Fassel, a former starter for the Boston College football team and the son of 1997 NFL Coach of the Year and current Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Jim Fassel, has been named the new director of football operations at Princeton University. He replaces Nolan Jones, who took a similar position at Northwestern University.
Fassel's responsibilities at Princeton include the full coordination of recruiting efforts, as well as assisting in the organization and administration of day-to-day efforts for head coach Roger Hughes.
Fassel graduated from Boston College in 2004 with a degree in marketing. He walked on to the football team and earned a scholarship and a starting position as a placekicker. His football experience also includes five summers working with the New York Giants when his father served as head coach. The younger Fassel prepared practice and game equipment and also assisted coaches during practices and drills.
Fassel, who earned his master's degree in Administrative Studies in June 2005, founded and owned TGB Digital Inc., a video production company based in Bergen County, N.J. He also performed an internship with Credit Suisse First Boston, and he served on the Executive Board of the Boston College Macintosh Users Group.
