MALMO, Sweden - The Princeton women's basketball team left stifling New Jersey late Sunday afternoon. Only 18 hours later, both with the weather and the location, the Tigers were literally a world away.
When the Tigers' bus crossed the high-tech Oresund Bridge Monday afternoon, traveling from Denmark to Sweden, Princeton had reached the city of Malmo, the first destination on its 10-day, six-game trip to Scandinavia. The weather was mostly sunny and a downright refreshing 20 degrees celsius (about 68 fahrenheit), feeling more like October back at home rather than August.
Princeton's 11 players, four coaches and a host of support personnel will be in Scandinavia until next Wednesday, Aug. 24, visiting three countries among the most beautiful in the world. On the court, the Tigers will play two games apiece against both the Danish and Norwegian national teams and two games against Horsholm, a Danish club squad.
The Tigers will spend four days in Sweden, two in Norway and three in Denmark, where the team flew into Copenhagen Airport today at approximately 3 p.m. local time (10 a.m. EDT).'
Princeton's first destination in Sweden, Malmo, is a charming city located just a 20-minute drive across the Oresund from Copenhagen. Bicycles are just as prominent as cars on the narrow roads, and businessmen in suits and ties ride bikes to and from work and to the train station.
The Tigers will eat a team dinner on Monday night, then take a tour of Malmo on Tuesday before playing the Danish national squad on Tuesday night in Copenhagen.
Check back often for more updates, and hopefully pictures, from Princeton's once-in-a-lifetime tour of Scandinavia.
