MALMO, Sweden - Princeton's first full day in Sweden featured a whole lot of things that made the Tigers glad they decided to make the trip.
Whether it was the picnic in Malmohus Park, the opportunity to simply walk around the beautiful town squares of Malmo or the 64-55 win over the Danish National Team later at night, there was not much to complain about Tuesday in Scandinavia.
"It was a great day for all of us, from the sightseeing tour of the city in the morning to the chance to talk to all the great track athletes staying at our hotel for the big meet tonight," said head coach Richard Barron. "On the court, it was nice to get a win and to play against another team as opposed to just ourselves in practice.
As for the game, 2004-05 Ivy League Rookie of the Year, Meagan Cowher, scored 12 of her 16 points in the first half and added seven rebounds and three assists, and the Tigers pulled away in the third quarter and then held off a late rally by the Danish team. Casey Lockwood scored 11 points, while Ali Prichard had two second-half three-pointers, including one that finally finished off the Danish rally late in the game.
The Tigers had a couple times of difficulty with the FIBA (international) rules, but otherwise handled the 40-minute bus trip to the game and the Danish defense flawlessly.
Earlier in the day, the Tigers took a guided tour of Malmo, the third-largest city in Sweden, thanks to tour guide Eva and bus driver Lasse. Princeton saw nearly every section of the city in the two-hour tour, including the Stortorget, the city's main square.
