Penn players won both the open and "B" singles brackets Sunday as the 37th annual Farnsworth/Princeton Invitational men's tennis tournament concluded at the Lenz Tennis Center.
Princeton's Andrew Husby had his team's best singles performance on the weekend, reaching the semifinals of the "B" draw before falling to Penn's Jimmy Fairbanks in a heartbreaking three-setter, 6-7, 7-5 and 6-7. Husby reached the semifinals thanks to an impressive straight-set win over the No. 1 seed in the bracket, Yale's Rory Green.
In doubles, Princeton's No. 1 team of Hans Plukas and Andrew Lieu also reached the semifinals before falling to the eventual main draw champions, Nic Brunner and Josh Raff from Cornell.
The main singles draw went according to form as the top two seeds, Jason Pinsky and Mikhail Bekker of Penn, met in Sunday's final. Pinsky lost the first set to his teammate before recovering to win a tiebreak in the second set and take the third set 6-3.
The "B" singles draw also featured a surprising matchup of Penn players, with No. 6 seed Fairbanks meeting doubles partner and No. 5 seed Joseph Lok in the final. Lok won the match, 6-2 in the third set.
Yale's Jeff Dawson and Josh Lederman kept Lok from winning a second title, defeating the "B" bracket champ and teammate Fairbanks 8-5 in the "B" doubles final.
Milosz Gudzowski of Yale defeated Columbia's Michael Accordino from Columbia in straight sets to the win the consolation singles bracket from the main draw.
