Tigers Fall to No. 72 Virginia in Women's Tennis Season Opener, 6-1

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The 72nd-ranked Virginia women's tennis team won five singles matches in straight sets on the way to a 6-1 victory over Princeton in match played Sunday morning.
The match was the season opener for the Tigers, while Virginia improved to 2-0.
The Tigers won at No. 3 doubles, where Rankin Williams and Christine Kansky took an 8-7 decision over Amanda Rales and Caroline Hammond, but the Cavaliers had clinched the doubles point with earlier wins at Nos. 1 and 2.
Princeton's singles win came at No. 5, where Ivana King split sets with Lindsey Pereira before winning a 10-3 pro-set to clinch the victory. The Cavaliers had clinched the match when Kristen James defeated Alison Hashmall at No. 2 singles.
At No. 3, Darcy Robertson lost in straight sets, but the match was closer than the outcome would indicate. Rachel DelPriore won the first set 6-4 before ekeing out a 7-6 victory to clinch the second set.
Princeton will play Old Dominion in Charlottesville on Monday.
