Men's Golf Stands 15th at The Prestige in California
October 16, 2006 | Men's Golf
LA QUINTA, Calif. -- The Princeton men's golf team is in 15th place at The Prestige, hosted by UC Davis and Stanford at PGA West in Palm Springs, Calif. The Tigers are 44-over as a team.
Both at 6-under, Stanford and UCLA lead a field made up mostly of major-conference schools from all over the country. After the Cardinal and the Bruins, only UC Irvine, which boasts the individual leader in Jay Choe at 7-under, is in the red as a team at -5. UCLA's Kevin Chappell had the low round of the day with a second-round 65 on the par-72 course.
John Sawin is the top Tiger at +5, standing in a 32nd-place tie. He fired a 73 and 76 in the opening two rounds. Fellow senior Brent Herlihy is tied for 52nd at +10 after an 81 and 73. Rookie Gregory Stamas is at +15 after an 84 and 75, good for a 69th-place tie, while freshman Juan Pablo Candela is in 76th (+19, 79-84) and sophomore Max Schechter is in 78th (+30, 95-79).
Play concludes Tuesday in Princeton's second-to-last fall tournament.
