Tiger Crews Head To Cambridge For Annual Head Of The Charles Regatta
October 20, 2006 | Men's Rowing - Lightweight
The Head of the Charles, one of the most prestigious regattas in the world, will take place Saturday, Oct. 21, on the Charles River in Cambridge. Last season, Princeton shocked the field with a win from the men's heavyweight varsity eight, and while it is unlikely to see a repeat of such a historic upset, this will be a good way for the coaches to measure the progress of their respective programs.
One coach very interested in this weekend's competition is Greg Hughes, the men's lightweight coach. His team, which placed third at the IRA national championships last season will start second. Harvard, which came in second last year, starts first and Cornell, the 2006 champs, will start third. It will be an early showdown from three teams likely to be in the hunt for the 2007 national title.
Eleven Princeton crews will compete against other top programs in the country. The following is a list of races that Princeton will compete in:
9.48 Youth 4+ Frosh Heavyweights and Lightweights
10.40 Youth 8+ Frosh Heavyweights and Lightweights
12.20 Collegiate M's 8+ 4 Varsity Lightweights and 4 Varsity Heavies
12.41 Collegiate W's 8+ Varsity and Novice Women
2.27 Lightweight W's 4+ Lightweight Varsity
2.44 Lightweight M's 8+ Lightweight Varsity
2.56 Lightweight W's 8+ Lightweight Varsity
3.23 Champ W's 4+ Openweight Varsity
4.10 Champ M's 8+ Heavyweight Varsity
4.26 Champ W's 8+ Openweight Varsity
For those Tiger fans who will travel to the Head of the Charles, there will be a Princeton tent in the Reunion Village on the Boston side of the river near the Weeks Footbridge. The Honorable Jake Remley will be the host at the tent.
