Men's Soccer Falls at Cornell, 2-0
October 28, 2006 | Men's Soccer
Cornell broke open a scoreless tie with less than four minutes remaining in the first half and added insurance on a penalty kick just after halftime on the way to a 2-0 victory against Princeton in a Ivy League men's soccer game played at Berman Field Saturday night.
The Big Red (3-8-3, 2-3-1 Ivy) got on the board in the 42nd minute after an evenly-played first half. Dan Marks had a header attempt in the box, which was then redirected by Matt Bouraee into the net.
After a Cornell player was pulled down the box just 1:54 into the second half, Brian Kuritzky put his team ahead by two goals with the finish on the penalty kick attempt.
Princeton (6-7-3, 1-4-1 Ivy) had eight corner kicks and nine shots on the day, but Big Red goalie Luca Cerratani had saves on all four of Princeton's second-half shots to earn the shutout.
Princeton goalie Justin Oppenheimer had four saves while playing all 90 minutes. Cornell outshot the Tigers 13-9, including 7-4 in the second half.
The win was the first for the Big Red over Princeton since the 2002 season.
The Tigers conclude their season next Saturday afternoon when they host Penn at Lourie-Love Field at 1 p.m. in the first game of a men's-women's doubleheader against the Quakers.
