October 31, 2006 | Women's Golf
SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. -- The Princeton women's golf team remained in second place to close the Ross Resorts Invitational in North Carolina Tuesday as host Rollins College gave back only two shots off its second-round lead.
Marlowe Boukis (+8) also remained in second place behind Rollins' Vanessa Vela, whose second-round 69 Monday held up as the low round. Boukis (76-73-75-224) finished six shots back of Vela.
As a team, Princeton finished at +43 for the three rounds on the par-72 course, five shots behind Rollins and 15 shots ahead of Harvard. Yale, the fifth-place finisher, was the third Ivy team in the 13-team tournament.
Senior Sharla Cloutier tied for fourth with her 71, 79 and 76 (226) to finish at +10, and sophomore Susannah Aboff (+11) placed sixth with her 76, 77 and 74 (227) while freshman Michelle Grilli (+14) shot a 79, 76 and 75 (230) to tie for ninth as Princeton was the only school to place four golfers in the top 10. Junior Annika Welander, who won Princeton's first two tournaments, tied for 38th at +24, posting three 80s (240).
Seniors Alexis Etow (T24, 78-76-81-235, +19) and Caitlin Sullivan (T50, 81-80-82-243, +27) competed on an individual basis.
The tournament closed Princeton's fall schedule as the Tigers will return to competition in the spring.
