Jeff Terrell Earns National, Ivy Offensive Player Of The Week Honor
November 13, 2006 | Football
Senior quarterback Jeff Terrell was named both the Ivy League and Sports Network National Offensive Player of the Week following his brilliant performance in the 34-31 victory over Yale. Terrell threw for 445 yards, fourth-most in a game by any Princeton quarterback, and accounted for four touchdowns in the comeback victory.
"That performance was pretty amazing," head coach Roger Hughes said two days afterwards. "It was definitely reminiscent of the performances Jay Fiedler had during my days at Dartmouth. He is Fiedler-like in his leadership and toughness, and he is deserving of these terrific accolades. He was clearly the dominant force in that game. Not to take away from the receivers who did a great job getting open, but Jeff took the team on his back and led them to victory."
Terrell, completed 32 of 47 passes for 445 yards and three touchdowns, including the 57-yard game winner to Brian Brigham with 7:36 remaining in the fourth quarter. He added touchdown passes of 15 and eight yards to Brendan Circle in the second half, and he added a six-yard touchdown run in the first half to help keep Princeton in the game. He completed his last seven passes, including two consecutive touchdown throws and a game-ending third-down conversion to Circle. Terrell moved into fourth place on the all-time Princeton passing list; with 3,909 career passing yards, he is also likely to become Princeton's fourth 4,000-yard career passer.
Terrell leads the Ivy League in passing yardage (243.1), touchdown passes (16), total offense (270.0) and passing efficiency (134.2). He has accounted for 72.7% of the Princeton offense in 2006. Most importantly, though, Terrell has led Princeton to an 8-1 record this season and can help the Tigers clinch at least a share of the 2006 Ivy League title with a win Saturday against Dartmouth. If Princeton wins and Harvard defeats Yale, the Tigers would clinch the outright Ivy League title.
