Colgate Defeats Princeton 4-2

PRINCETON -- Colgate used three two-man advantage goals to defeat the Princeton men's hockey team 4-2 on Saturday night at Hobey Baker Rink. Seniors Darroll Powe and Grant Goeckner-Zoeller scored for Princeton in the loss.
Five of the six goals in the game came on the power play and the only even-strength goal came seconds after a penalty had expired. Colgate was 3 for 9 with the man advantage while Princeton was 2 for 13. All three of Colgate's power-play goals came on 5-on-3's.
Princeton outshot the Raiders 51-29 for the game and had a period-high 20 in the second.
Colgate opened the scoring 4:03 into the opening period when Jesse Winchester's point shot found its way through traffic on the power play. Tyler Burton had his first of three assists on the goal and Jason Fredricks had his first of two assists.
Princeton event the score four minutes later when Powe scored his third goal of the season on the power play. Powe won an offensive zone draw that sophomore Lee Jubinville worked to senior Brett Westgarth at the point. Westgarth took a shot and Powe deflected it at the last moment and by Colgate goaltender Mark Dekanich.
Colgate went ahead for good late in the period when Nick St. Pierre scored the second of the team's 5-on-3 goals also from the point. Fredricks and Burton set up the goal.
The Raiders extended the lead to 4-1 with two goals late in the second period. Marc Fulton scored with the two-man advantage at 16:50 and Jason Williams added an even-strength goal at 18:26.
Princeton scored the lone goal of the final period when Goeckner-Zoeller scored on the power play. The goal was his third of the season and was assisted by sophomore Brett Wilson and freshman Jody Pederson.
Dekanich made 49 saves for the win, while senior goaltender B.J. Sklapsky made 25 saves in the loss.
