Wilson's Four Points Leads Princeton to 4-3 Win
December 30, 2006 | Men's Ice Hockey
PRINCETON -- A day after scoring a goal 43 seconds into overtime to win, the Princeton men's hockey team used a goal with 48 seconds left in regulation to pick up a 4-3 win over Minnesota State on Saturday night at Baker Rink. The goal came from freshman Cam MacIntyre who had opened the scoring for Princeton in the first period and was assisted by sophomore Brett Wilson, who had a hand in all four Tiger goals on the evening.
The win was Princeton's fourth win in a row and moved the Tigers to 6-1-1 in their last eight contests. The Tigers have also won four games in a row on their home ice.
Princeton, which led 3-1 in the third period saw that lead evaporate thanks to Minnesota State goals at 7:01 and 11:32 of the third period. The Tigers though regained the lead late when Wilson stole the puck at the blueline and skated deep into the Maverick zone. Wilson circled behind the net and fed the puck to MacIntyre on the far post, where he scored his second goal of the night and his third of the season.
Minnesota State opened the scoring with a power-play goal at 13:50 of the first period when Joel Hanson's shot from the right point beat Princeton senior goalkeeper B.J. Sklapsky. The Tigers answered back at 17:07 of the period when MacIntyre scored on the doorstep. Freshman Dan Bartlett and Wilson assisted on the goal and the first period ended with the score 1-1.
Princeton went ahead with two goals in the second period. First at 7:36 Wilson fed Bartlett on the doorstep for his fourth goal of the season and then at 16:25 Wilson scored on a two-man advantage to give the Tigers a 3-1 lead. The goal was his fourth of the year as he had a part of all four Princeton goals for his first career four-point night. Senior Grant Goeckner-Zoeller and senior Max Cousins had the assists on the goal.
Minnesota State's goals in the third period came on a rebound attempt from James Gaulrapp and an end-to-end rush by Geoff Irwin.
Sklapsky made 33 saves in the win for Princeton as the Tigers were outshot 36-24. He made a game-saving stop with seconds on the clock with the end of his pad on a shot taken by Chad Brownlee.
Princeton reaches .500 with the win at 7-7-2 overall. The Tigers are back in action next Friday night for an exhibition game against the U.S. National Under-18 team. The Tigers host Quinnipiac the following night.
