PRINCETON, N.J. - Princeton sophomore forward Meagan Cowher has been honored as the Ivy League Player of the Week for women's basketball, capping a weekend that saw her score 35 points and 19 rebounds in two Tiger wins over Dartmouth and Harvard. It was the first Dartmouth-Harvard road sweep for the program in the 24 such trips since 1979.
Cowher had 17 points and 10 rebounds in a 62-49 win at Dartmouth on Friday, the program's first win at Leede Arena since 1998. She also had two blocks, three steals and three assists on 6 for 12 shooting from the field. The double-double was Cowher's third of the season and fifth of her career.
Against Harvard in a 69-57 win on Saturday, Princeton's first win at Lavietes Pavilion since 1999, Cowher was 6 for 8 from the field, scoring 16 points and pulling down nine rebounds, blocking two more shots.
The award is Cowher's third of the season after claiming the honor on Dec. 19 and Jan. 16. It is the program's fifth award of the season, adding to the pair Becky Brown earned in December and January.
More big games by Cowher and Brown would come in handy this weekend. The Tigers, who are 18-6 for just the second time in team history, are also 9-2 in the Ivy League and host first-place Brown (11-1) on Friday at 7 p.m. If Princeton wins its last three regular-season games, it can do no worse than a three-way playoff with Brown and Dartmouth. Such a playoff would be held Mar. 9 and 11 at a site to be determined, the league office announced today.
