RALEIGH, N.C. - In a match that was closer than the final score would indicate, the Princeton women's tennis team began its Spring Break trip with a 5-2 loss to 50th-ranked N.C. State at the Isenhour Tennis Center Sunday afternoon.
After falling behind 3-0, the Tigers pulled within 3-2 when Christine Kansky came back from a 6-0 first-set loss at No. 4 to defeat Nandeta Chandrasekar 6-4 in the third. But the Wolfpack then clinched the match when Neils Barringer outlasted Laura Trimble in three sets at No. 6.
Princeton had made it 3-1 when Ivana King defeated Alejandra Guerra impressively 7-6 and 6-2 at No. 3 singles. The Tigers took another match to three sets, this time by Darcy Robertson at No. 2, but she fell in a third-set tiebreak to Barbara Orlay in the day's final match.
The doubles were split after Kansky and Rankin Williams won at No. 3, but Guerra and Orlay, the 30th-ranked team in the country, came from behind to defeat King and Jessica Siebel 8-5 at No. 1.
The Tigers, now 4-5 on the spring season, will play UNC Greensboro on Duke's campus Tuesday afternoon.
