MALIBU, Calif. - Playing its second top 30 team in as many matches, the Princeton men's tennis team fell to 28th-ranked Washington, 7-0 in a match played at Pepperdine's Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center Tuesday.
The Tigers (4-7) played well in doubles, getting an 8-4 win at No. 3 from Shannon Morales and Darius Craton, but the Huskies clinched the doubles point when the 18th-ranked team of Daniel Chu and Alex Slovic outlasted Andrew Lieu and Hans Plukas 9-7 at No. 1.
Princeton took two singles matches to a third set. At No. 4, Hans Plukas won the first set against Andy Kuharszky 6-4 before falling 10-4 in a third-set proset. At No. 5, Morales won the first set against Chu by a 6-4 score before falling in the second set and in a proset to decide the match.
Two Washington singles players, Slovic at No. 1 and Jean-Noel Insausti at No. 3, are ranked in the top 60 nationally in singles. Slovic defeated Craton 6-1 and 6-1 at No. 1, while Insausti defeated Lieu at No. 3 6-1 and 6-4.
Princeton concludes its Spring Break trip Thursday, playing 72nd-ranked San Diego State.
