AMHERST, Mass. - Junior Carly Grabowski reached the final of the Holleran Cup championship, which gets awarded to the top player ranked 33-64 in the nation. Penn's Caitlin Russell ended up winning the title in three games over Grabowski. The top honor in women's college squash, the Gail Ramsay Cup, went to the top-seeded Lily Lorentzen of the Harvard Crimson, as all six Princeton players in the top draw were eliminated.
Russell topped Grabowski 9-1;9-2;9-3 in the final. Grabowski had dropped only one game en route to that match. Following an undefeated regular season, the tough Tiger junior made it through Saturday's session with a 9-1;9-2;9-2 win over Williams' Kate Whipple and a 9-5;9-6;5-9;9-5 semifinal win over Dartmouth's Rebecca Loucks.
Russell had already knocked out the only other Princeton player in the draw. Freshman Maggie O'Toole dropped a 6-9;9-5;9-6;9-10;9-3 quarterfinal decision to Russell, who earned another five-game win in the semifinal.
Harvard's Lily Lorentzen topped teammate Kyle Grigg in five games to win the Ramsay Cup on Sunday. Margaret Kent, Marilla Hiltz, Gen Lessard and Casey Riley all fell in the first round, although several put up strong efforts. Kent took a game off top-seeded Lorentzen, while Lessard fell in a 6-9;9-5;7-9;9-5;9-5 decision to ninth-seeded Amy Gross of Yale. Two Princeton players won their first-round matches. Ali Pearson upset the tournament's 14th seed, Penn's Paula Pearson, 9-7;9-7;9-7, while 10th-seeded Claire Rein-Weston topped Mt. Holyoke's Pam Anckerman in three games. Pearson dropped a 9-6;9-7;9-7 decision to third-seeded Michelle Ranieri of Yale, while Rein-Weston fell 8-10;9-1;9-2;9-2 to Grigg.
Riley went on to win two matches of the consolation draw, but would be eliminated in the semifinal. The only women's player who will compete Sunday is Grabowski.
