CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The Princeton softball team ended its weekend at the UNC Tar Heel Invitational on Sunday with a 4-2 win over North Dakota State (4-10). The win brings Princeton's record to 2-3 after the season-opening tournament in which all five games were decided by a single run.
Cristina Cobb-Adams led off the game with a double and came home on a sacrifice fly by freshman Kathryn Welch, giving Princeton a 1-0 lead. But NDSU went ahead when Lynnae Foshag came home on a fielder's choice and Ashley Leier came home on a wild pitch, both in the fourth inning.
Amanda Erickson scored Princeton's run in the sixth to tie the score, and a leadoff walk and an error allowed what would be the Tigers' final two runs aboard in the seventh, scored by Cobb-Adams and Tiffany Andras.
Sophomore Kristen Schaus (1-1) picked up her first win of the year, allowing two run sand six hits, striking out five and walking one.
Senior pitcher Erin Snyder made the all-tournament team, striking out 29 batters between the North Carolina and Memphis games. Fellow senior Erickson, who had the game-winning RBI over North Carolina and hit a three-run home run against South Carolina, also made the all-tournament team.
The Tigers are off next weekend and resume their season with the spring trip to Northern California Mar. 17-26.
