FAIRFAX, Va. - Freshman Emma Giunipero won the discus throw with a toss of 41.13 meters (134.94 feet) to lead four Princeton winners at the George Mason Spring Open Invitational Track Meet this weekend.
Another Princeton thrower, senior Laura Okpala, was also a winner for the Tigers with an impressive performance. Her winning toss of 49.37 meters (nearly 162 feet) was more than three meters better than the second-place throw.
In the steeplechase, the Tigers dominated with the top three finishers in the event. Suzanne Andrews won the 3,000-meter race in a time of 10:55.99, while Heather Iatauro was second in 11:18 and Rachel Farnsworth in third place in just less than 11:23.
Princeton also had a winner on the track in Jordan Wagenseller, who ran a time of 2:16 flat to take the 800 meters in a close finish over William & Mary's Allie Lewis.
In addition to the throwing success of Giunipero and Okpala, the Tigers had two more strong performances in the field events. Jessica Kloss had a leap of 11 feet, 5 3/4 inches to finish second in the pole vault, while Molly Jones was a second-place finisher in the triple jump. On the track, Lindsay Cole finished second in the 1,500 meters, while Mawusi Arnett was second in the 400-meter hurdles.
