PRINCETON, N.J. - Princeton senior righthander Erin Snyder has been named the Ivy League Softball Pitcher of the Week for the third time this season, the league office announced Tuesday. Snyder threw a five-inning perfect game Sunday, the fourth of her career, as Princeton crushed Yale 16-0. Monday against Brown, Snyder (10-3) struck out 19 batters in a seven-inning 3-0 win.
In four Ivy appearances, Snyder is 4-0 with a 0.00 ERA in 20 2/3 innings pitched. She has fanned 47 batters in that span, walking none and lowering her ERA from 1.05 to 0.78. She has also won six straight starts since holding No. 5 Stanford to a run and seven hits in a 1-0 loss Mar. 25.
While Sunday's perfect game was a dominating performance, Monday's game was a run for the record book. According to the 2006 NCAA softball records publication, only one pitcher in all of Division I history has struck out 21 batters in a seven-inning game. Snyder was two away from that maximum, though 19 is not her career-high. Last season, she fanned 21 in 10 innings against Harvard.
The Tigers, who at 20-9 have clinched their 16th straight 20-win season, are at 6-0 in Ivy play. Wednesday, the team travels to Towson for a non-conference twinbill before resuming the league slate Saturday and Sunday against Columbia and Cornell at Class of 1895 Field.
