PRINCETON - Although both Cornell and Princeton won a pair of races on Lake Carnegie Saturday, it was the Big Red which went home with the Platt Cup. Cornell claimed a tight win in the first varsity race, while Princeton's young rowers were victorious in two competitions.
Princeton won the third varsity eight (6:13.9) and the first novice (6:02.2), and the Tigers hung tough in both of the top varsity competitions. Cornell claimed the Platt with a winning time of 5:53.6 in the first varsity race, slightly ahead of Princeton's winning time of 5:57.0. Rutgers claimed third in 5:58.3.
In the second varsity eight, Cornell won in 5:57.6, while Princeton placed second in 6:00.4.
Princeton will keep moving towards Eastern Sprints next weekend, when the Tigers welcome Penn and Georgetown to Lake Carnegie to compete for the Wood Hammond Trophy.
